I heard your story this morning as I drove from Mt. Sidney, VA back to my home in Richmond. You immediately drew me into the story when you described your trip down to SW VA. I lived in Norton, VA (talk about far southwest) for most of my life. Although I got away as fast as I possibly could, I find myself longing for the pace of life I once had, the smells, and waking up to fresh biscuits.
What city is Hazel Mountain near? I would love to know more about where you visited in VA.
Thank you for your story. It was a great addition to my morning drive.
PS. You have such a great “radio” voice! Very easy to listen to. 🙂
Hey, Valerie — thanks so much for the nice note. Sometimes I record these things and forget when they air and it’s like it all just vanishes. Nice to know it landed on someone’s ears after all.
Speaking of landing on someone’s ears, I’m listening to your music on your MySpace page. Wow — let’s talk about great voices, shall we? Beautiful — hauntingly beautiful, even.
Hazel Mountain is — according to Google maps — about 35 miles from Norton. So that would make it … what, about an hour and a half on those roads?
Couldn’t get your essay to play on my ‘puter, so I’ll have to call in an expert (my 5yr old grandson). I do still have and treasure a copy the essay that you wrote about the mountain several years ago.

I’ll email you the map so you can check it out.
Thanks again. You made my day.

THANK YOU! 🙂
A forgotten echo voice from Hazel mountain?

Take care
Hey, Scott — thanks for listening … um, I mean trying to listen. 🙂 I’ll send the raw file to you via email. Maybe that will work.
